If you’re new to cruising, or it’s been a while since your last sea voyage, this week's Travel Tip Tuesday explores a few ways to get the most out of your next cruise experience. Whether it’s a leisurely 12-passenger barge along French canals, or an ocean liner circling the Caribbean Islands, these tips will help you set sail like a pro.
Early-Bird Savings & Perks
Cruise lines typically offer the best rates and bonuses right when a cruise first goes on sale. You may be tempted to wait, but what usually happens is the cruise ships start to fill up and the increasing demand leads to higher prices. Booking early typically results in free bonuses such as pre-paid gratuities, on-board spending credit, or a reduced fare. Plus you'll benefit from being able to select your ideal cabin. You can even book your next cruise while aboard the ship on a current cruise, usually at a discount
Upgrading To A Balcony Cabin Is Money Well Spent
A balcony cabin will typically cost more than those with only a window, or no view at all. However, you’ll find that the additional expense is worth the price. Fresh air, complete privacy, and uncrowded views will make a big difference when you seek some downtime. Balcony cabins also tend to be quieter, and are prized by those who like to sleep in.
Make Dinner & Event Reservations Early
Once onboard, make a quick tour of your ship. Learn about the amenities and restaurants that you may want to book in advance. Set up reservations for events and specialty dinners early so that you can reserve the best times for your schedule.
Consider Buying A Spa Pass - A daily or cruise-duration spa pass offers the opportunity to use spa facilities that include steam rooms, saunas, and therapy/heated pools. Passes are usually limited to ensure the facilities aren't overcrowded, so check if your ship's spa offers them on the day you embark.
